About the information service

Why is an information service needed?

The Scottish Needs Assessment Programme (SNAP) Report of Children and Young People's Mental Health (2003) indicated that many of those working with children and young people needed further training and support when dealing with mental health issues. Playfield Institute's information service is part of NHS Fife's response to this need.

What is the role of the information service?

The role of the information service is to provide relevant information for frontline workers to help promote the wellbeing of children and young people.

How do we do this?

The information section of this website contains links, publications and leaflets and booklets pages. Many of these links, publications, leaflets and booklets are from sources such as government and NHS. All others have been deemed to hold useful information.

We also have a library to help meet the information needs of people who work with children and young people. The books held by the library have been recommended by specialist advisors and frontline workers. Click here to see the list of books held in the library.

We are in the unique position of having access to practitioners based within Fife’s Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. These practitioners have a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that we can draw on.

The Research Lab is available for use by frontline workers. The library is located within the Lab, along with two computers which have internet access and a printer. There is comfortable seating and a work area for study.

We can also provide help with eLibrary and internet searches.
