Current Projects

Below are some of the research projects currently underway at Playfield Institute.

Funding has been secured from the Scottish Government to develop and extend the HandsOnScotland toolkit (www.handsonscotland.co.uk). The development will provide information and tools for workers, parents and carers to promote the mental health (flourishing) in children and young people, and to prevent the troubling behaviours already described on the HandsOnScotland website. A literature review is underway and we are in the process of running focus groups with workers and parents.

We are involved in a Scottish Government-funded study investigating a possible method of facilitating the disclosure of childhood sexual abuse of women attending pelvic pain clinics. A journal article has been submitted.

We are working with Educational Psychology and Health Promotion on a mental health and wellbeing section for a new young people’s website (funded by sexual health strategy group).

We are working in collaboration with Public Health to carry out an evaluation of NHS Fife’s breastfeeding policies. Questionnaires will be sent to all mums who have returned to work from maternity leave since 2006, asking about their experiences of being a mum in the workplace.

We are assisting Community Services in writing the report for a project they have completed recently.

We are currently carrying out various public health literature reviews.

The Institute is a member of the London-based CORC (CAMHS Outcomes Research Consortium) and is conducting audit and evaluation of the outcomes of all CAMHS services in Fife. These outcomes will be compared to UK statistics.

The evaluation of courses held at the Institute is an ongoing project. The ratings and comments received from course participants are used in the development of our training programme.
