Introduction

This is a two part course. Both parts will take the format of an open workshop during which participants may actively contribute and ask questions. Part One will include a brief on the Triad of Impairments and co-existing conditions, followed by a journey drawing a comparison between daily life for those who are socially able and those affected by Asperger's syndrome. Part Two will be an informal, autiobiographical, sharing experience where Stella will shape the session around needs and interests of participants.

Aim

To explore the Triad of Impairments in connectoin with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders) and to discover the impact of the social deficits on children and young people with Asperger's syndrome.

Learning Outcomes

• A greater awareness of Asperger's syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder and the symptoms.

• An understanding of the Triad of Impairments (with reference to the ICD-10 assessment criteria).

• Those attending will tangibly appreciate the impact of the social world on children and young people with Asperger's syndrome and will therefore have a clearer idea of how to respond to their needs.

Who should attend?

Anyone who works alongside children and young people with Asperger's syndrome including parents, foster carers, school teachers, NHS workers, social workers, etc.
