Introduction

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy looks at the relationships between thoughts, emotions, behaviour and physical sensations which arise out of an individual's interpretation of a given situation. CBT is based on simple principles, is goal orientated and therefore is readily understood by helpers new to this approach.

The morning workshop will be about basic principles and strategies of CBT. The afternoon workshop will relate to disorders and difficulties such as anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. We will present some case studies which will illustrate how CBT techniques can be applied and how family factors are incorporated into the work. We will introduce some self-help books and be available for informal discussion with participants.

This workshop will discuss how to recognise truly collaborative therapeutic relationships on how to encourage collaborative working.
